First Post in Too Long. Follow My WIP.

My daughter was teasing me the other day, because I said it was too hard to keep up with my blog. She said you don't have write much, just post some paintings. She's right of course. Few things are as debilitating as perfectionism. She also suggested I post works in progress (WIP). Yes, I can do that. : )

So you're viewing the beginning stages of a ACEO or art trading card. I start with a 2.5"x3.5" piece of Strathmore 140lb acid-free cold pressed paper. The only kind I use. Once I find a reference image, I quickly sketch it onto the card with my Twist and Erase mechanical pencil. My favorite. I really don't like sketching. Painting is more fun, so I don't linger on the sketches. I leave them loose and let the watercolor create detail.

I will post two other images of WIP and let you know when I plan to place on eBay for sale.

The First Painting In My New Studio

I took a leap of faith when my heart leaped after looking at my new studio space in the city. It's almost cliche; in an old warehouse with 12 foot ceilings and huge windows. It's dirty and raw and cold. In the summer it will be dirty and raw and hot. The roof leaks and there's a floor above me...and I love it. I hope that I will be as prolific as I was in 2004. So far so good.

Rich Brooks, an artist with space at the same building, has organized an art event in which I participated. There's a running Marathon that will use banners painted by nearby artists at every mile marker. Rich invited me to paint one as I was looking at renting the studio. I did and I had a blast. A local news crew came out one morning and the artists were all interviewed. No one in my circle saw it, but still fun none the less.

So here it is. My first painting in my new space!

Bidding starts at only $49.99.
